Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Wife Finally Breaks Silence, Says His Family Has Been In Pain Since His Arrest

Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, the wife of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has shared the agony of Kanu's family since he was arrested again by the Muhammadu Buhari government.

According to Sahara Reporters, Uchechi said she is concerned that her husband has been beaten and tortured by security agencies in both Kenya and Nigeria.

The wife of the IPOB leader, who is currently in the north of England, stated this in an interview with the British newspaper The Sunday Times on Sunday.

Speaking for the first time since Kanu's arrest, the 40-year-old wife lamented: “I find it difficult to speak. I am extremely devastated. He has been beaten and tortured and I am afraid for his life ”.

She said that she and his family had not had contact with him since his arrest.

Uchechi said:

“I was always worried about Nnamdi. When you ask for freedom from a dictatorship, you are a target. But when I saw what happened in Belarus and how nobody did anything, I knew that no place was safe.

“The Nigerian government carrying out this handover is a crime. We are not even talking about independence, ”he said.

“We are just asking for a referendum exactly as Scotland did with the UK and the UK with the EU, but the Nigerian government wants to exterminate our entire family. It is a scandal and a shame that Britain is not acting to protect its own citizens. "

Furthermore, a lawyer for Doughty Street Chambers in London, who works as an advisor to the Kanu family, warned that the UK was at risk of becoming an "accessory to torture" if it did not act in support of Kanu.

"Rendition is recognized as a form of torture," said Jonathan Cooper.

“We need the UK government to take the lead by condemning the actions of Nigeria and Kenya and insisting that if Kanu is to be returned to Nigeria, only independent courts can authorize his return. If Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab continues to say nothing, there is a risk that the UK will become an accessory to torture. "

Two weeks ago, Kanu appeared in court in Abuja, hooded and charged with inciting violence. Nigerian authorities claimed that he was extradited to the country to continue his trial.
